Forever Young isn’t just a synth-pop record. It’s one of the great cold-war-era European pop manifestos, polished to a chrome shine and pulsing with yearning. You get the teenage bombast of “Big in Japan,” the stately dread of “To Germany With Love,” the eternal prom promise of the title track and it all sounds like it was made in a cathedral built out of mirrors and drum machines.
This pressing hails from West Germany in 1984, the heart of Alphaville’s home terrain, and includes the original poster. Yes, the one with the wood-paneled boat and the captain’s hat. It’s got a seam-repaired lyric inner sleeve.
