A Classic West Coast Rock Album of Reflection, Harmony, and Maturity
Released in April 1976 on Warner Bros. Records, Hideaway is the sixth studio album by the acclaimed soft rock trio America, composed of Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek. By the time Hideaway was recorded, America had already secured their place in 1970s music with hits like “A Horse with No Name” (1972), “Ventura Highway” (1972), and “Sister Golden Hair” (1975). This album continued their fruitful collaboration with legendary producer George Martin, best known for his work with The Beatles, who had already polished and refined America’s sound on their previous albums Holiday (1974) and Hearts (1975). Recorded at the renowned Caribou Ranch Studios in the Colorado Rockies, Hideaway blended America’s trademark harmonies, acoustic textures, and lyrical storytelling with Martin’s clean, elegant production, resulting in an album that captured the mellow, reflective essence of mid-1970s West Coast rock.
