Description
One of Andy Warhol's early record cover commissions, featuring two pieces of his on the front, and the same two also appear on the labels of the record.
Here's what one site had to say about the cover: "Andy Warhol won a competition organised by CBS Radio to illustrate a New York Times advertisement published on September 13th 1951 for the radio shows "Traffic in Narcotics" and "Crime on the Waterfront", narrated by Bill Downs, broadcast on CBS Radio on the same evening. The radio programmes were later released on this LP by Columbia Special Products. Andy Warhol's drawings were used on the record cover and record labels."
This original 1951 copy has seen a lot of wear, it was made of a lighter-than-usual cardboard to begin with, and was battered when I originally found it. I bought it because I collect cool spoken-word lps, and only later did I realize the illustrator's identity (it is unsigned by Warhol).
The vinyl is in much the same condition as the cover - pretty noisy. No skips or huge dings in it, but crackly. Which is a shame because the material on the record is really interesting and there are a lot of great voices and quotes on it - I've DJd it for years due to the terrific content on it, the east coast accents are priceless and clean copies would be highly desirable to those who know how entertaining it is ( organized crime on the waterfront and drug trafficking are the main topics - good clean fun! ).
I'm basically offering it here because I am not using it anymore and would like someone else to have a crack at enjoying it.
