Ars Musica, Lyndon Lawless Musical Director, The Fourth and Fifth Brandenburgs Timegate Recordings TG 234 1981
Condition, Vinyl: Vinyl is in excellent condition: no scratches or scuffs, black and shiny. There is a little bit of surface noise in the lead-in groove as is to be expected but this disappears when the music starts. If needed, I can probably make an audio sample, but it really won't do the sound justice.
Condition, Cover: Some ringwear/scuffing, as seen in photos.
Please note I do not use standard record collector grading scales, which I find to be subject to "grade inflation". Would I be disappointed with the condition of this record if I received it? No. Do I have any hesitations selling this record to someone? No.
Description:
This is a highly desirable (and rare) 1981 Ars Musica performance of Bach's Fourth and Fifth Brandenburg Concertos. A lot of work went into planning the performance and the resulting LP has prompted one critic to say "This may be the finest recording of any type, but I hesitate to say that because it is pointless and unfair to compare a recording of a large orchestra with a small, intimate chamber group. All I can say is that I have never heard any recording that is even more immediate and "alive" sounding. The inner detail, harmonic structure and dynamic shading are also unsurpassed." You can read more details here. While I'm not sure about that claim, it really does jump out of my speakers in a way that most classical recordings do not. If you have a highly resolving turntable/speaker combination, this is going to sound amazing. This is the second pressing of the LP.
Historically this LP has sold in the $100 to $500 range.

Shipping details: Record will be shipped with the LP in its sleeve, but outside of the album jacket. Both LP and jacket are then put into a plastic sleeve and sandwiched between cardboard, then placed in a cardboard LP mailer. Why? This prevents possible seam splitting of the jacket during shipping.
