Art Pepper  The Way It Was  (Contemporary S7630)  1972 NOS  Still sealed! This is a much-sought-after collection of previously unreleased material from alto saxophonist Art Pepper's highly acclaimed late 50's sessions for Contemporary Records.  On the side 1 songs, Art is paired with tenor saxophonist and master-improvisor Warne Marsh.  These two players weave lines together so fluidly, it's a shame this wasn't released at the time, but a miracle it was rediscovered in the vaults.  Side 2 includes THE BAND, or the rhythm section from the Miles Davis Quintet, including Red Garland- piano, Paul Chambers- bass, and Philly Joe Jones- percussion.   These early 70's era Contemporary pressings rival the originals in sound quality, and this is an audiophile label.  Always a good value, so pick them up when you find them.
