Description

Here's a RARE Delta Blues 78 from Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup. Here's the story why it is listed as Percy Lee Crudup. On a trip southward in May, Leonard Chess indulged in a little extracurricular recording, taping two sides by bluesman Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup in Jackson, Mississippi. Crudup was under contract to RCA Victor at the time, so, in a move that fooled no one, the two sides were attributed to one Percy Lee Crudup on release. Checker 754 remains a curiosity, as Chess wouldn't get another opportunity to record the durable bluesman. Has the following label on the flip from where it was bought, Roberts Brothers Record Shop. I had a few questions about this 78. So, here goes. I got this with a large collecton from an elderly gentleman in our area. He's about 80 or so. To my knowledge, it has never been juked. I do not see any chips or cracks. It could stand a good professional cleaning but still plays well. I have included cuts from both sides unfiltered just as it was recorded on my computer. Take a listen and decide for yourself.
