Vinyl:

Visual assessment: LP is USED, has been played often. There are light markings, signs of handling, and there are numerous light scratches, one or two of which are very lightly feelable. Unfortunately, on Side Two, there are two more serious scratches: there is a large (approx 1.7 cm) feelable scratch across most of track one ("Suche") and there is also another, much smaller (approx 0.3 cm) feelable scratch parallel to the larger scratch. A previous owner's initials and a date have been written in pencil on the label of Side One ("R.B. Des '83"). No stickers on labels. Difficult to see spindle marks on these labels, but I can see some on Side One.  

Side One grades as VG- initially but, as the tempo and volume increase, play is closer to VG and, on "Darkness: Flowers Must Die", play is often VG+. Side One plays with light crackle, but for me this becomes part of the listening experience as it doesn't generally overwhelm or detract from the flow of the music. A few light 'pops' that I noticed on this side.

Side Two I would grade overall as VG-. Moderate surface noise in the form of light crackle is also present on this side, but the feelable scratch across most of the first track means that there are quite a few 'clicks' as well. One is aware of them as "Suche" is also, as it happens, the quietest track on the album. At one point the 'clicks' are louder and, for a brief while, their presence is more intrusive. However, this side is still listenable and enjoyable and, as on Side One, there are no 'skips' or 'jumps' and the record plays right through.

Overall, this is a serviceable 'play copy' only: it is far from perfect, but it is definitely NOT "trashed". It is still an enjoyable listen despite its flaws, and it does play through. It is worth noting, too, that although it plays with imperfections as noted above, this original pressing has excellent sound. Also, there is no distortion.

Please do not bid if you are a fussy collector looking for a pristine copy! 

Cover:

The cover grades somewhere between "Poor" and "Fair (or Acceptable)". The cover has numerous flaws including laminate lift and tiny tears to the laminate in several places. It has creasing, dents, corner dents and corner wear and there is wear to the opening. I have tried to show some examples of wear to the cover in the photographs. Also, on the side of the cover which houses the inner sleeve and the LP, the one side of the jacket has parted company with the other side (at the opening, near the bottom seam, for approx 4.5 cm.) The cover is faded in parts, it has markings, and it generally shows its age. It has a worn appearance. On the plus side, there are no seam splits, and there is evidence of ring wear only to the rear of the cover. Although it is no longer intact, the cover is still functional. No writing, and no stickers. 

A note on the grading:

Grading is conservative. I don't use "EX" or "VG++" or "EX-".

Vinyl:

Sealed records will be listed as “Sealed”.

If the record appears to be in flawless condition without any defects it will be graded as "Near Mint".

A near perfect, possibly unplayed record.

Any scuffs, scratches or marks and the record will be graded as "VG+". Typically this will mean a lightly played record with minimal and/ or occasional surface noise only.

A better-than-average used record. Play is fairly quiet.

The grading "VG" will be applied to a record which has been played a number of times and plays with some intermittent surface noise in the form of low level or background crackle, 'clicks', 'pops' etc. However, although surface noise is present and is part of the listening experience, it should not overwhelm the music or be too intrusive.

An average used record. Some moderate surface noise.

A record graded as "VG-" will play with surface noise which is distracting or intrusive or 'competing' with the music. It should still however play through without 'skips' or 'jumps' and should still be listenable.

A below-average used record. Not trashed - playable, but somewhat noisy in parts or throughout.

A record graded as “G” will either have ‘skips’ or jumps, sound terribly noisy incl. possible distortion in the vocals and/ or be unplayable. An abused record. Only value is in its rarity or as a ‘placeholder’ copy.

With many records play is variable. This will be reflected in the grading as, for example:

VG-/VG or VG/VG+ or VG-/VG/VG+

Cover:

Like new – pristine –9 or 10 out of 10

Very Good – minor defects only, such as a tiny mark or crease, or a hint of corner wear – will otherwise be almost flawless –7 or 8 out of 10

Good – light wear is evident, but cover still intact, with (for example) legible spine, some shine to laminate, no serious ring wear etc., well preserved  –5 or 6 out of 10

Acceptable/ Fair – far more noticeable wear, incl. ring wear, corner wear, seam splits etc. although cover is still intact, functional –4 out of 10

Poor – shocking condition incl. pronounced ring wear, seam splits, writing, dirt etc. 

–3 out of 10 or less
