Aslan – Second Helpings (Profile Records GMOR 144 1977) Xian Folk Psych Private Press
Ultra rare Christian folk private press release on Profile Records from 1977, this 11-track collection mixes fine female vocals with delicate arrangements, blending self-penned songs and a few well delivered covers. Guitar, bass, drums, sax, violin, piano, accordion and strings provide the backing to some delightful harmonies, and a chilled proggy folk/psych sound.
Pressed in miniscule quantities it's almost impossible to get hold of, unless you're prepared to settle for the CD reissue.
Sleeve is excellent with just a few minor glue marks near top and bottom edges. No seam splits, ringwear, or noticeable corner or edge wear. Good readable spine.
Labels are Excellent, crisp and clear.
Visually, the vinyl looks Excellent but playgrades a touch above Very Good - no major problems but there is some surface noise at times: no skips, jumps or serious pops, but noticeable crackle from time to time. Probably a reflection of the quality of the pressing, I'd say. Not enough, thankfully to spoil your enjoyment of this hugely sought after slice of English folky gospelly prog.
NB No silly offers please, this LP is worth every penny of its start price, and plenty more. The only copy on Discogs at time of writing is a hefty £500+.
