Description
Rare historical 10-inch coated-metal home-recording record: PRESIDENT FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT'S WAR MESSAGE - as Broadcast to the Nation on December 8 1941 (his Request for Declaration of War Against Japan, one day after the Pearl Harbor attack), would have been recorded from the radio; the other side is a jazz track, LOUIS ARMSTRONG - Knockin' A Jug. A-side plays at 33, B-side plays at 78. The label is Audiodisc Recording Blank, NY USA; it is a coated metal disc, not shellac and not cardboard, and is much higher quality than your average record-at-home records or amusement booth records. Which leads me to wonder if there's more to it than that...
Condition is VG++ (glossy with some soft minimal surface marks and clean labels).
MORE TO COME - I've listed and will be listing many other rare 10" and 12" shellac records over the next month or two, mainly historical events, sports, personalities, politicians, speeches, military, WWI, WWII, presidential & campaign, kings & queens, etc.
A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.
(Vintage & Antique Records, Single, 78 rpm, Shellac, Non-music, Spoken Word, Speech, Broadcasting, History, WWII, Military, War, Japan, 1940's, Memorabilia, Collectible)
