About Telmanyi's Bach recordings and the special "Vega" bow (from Gramophone): "He was also well known for his performances of Bach's music, developing early in his career a technique of playing that composer's three-part writing not as an arpeggio but as a chord. To play quadruple stoppings he had to arpeggiate; and in the belief that violinists of Bach's day were able to play four parts as a chord he had a bow made with a curved stick, which enabled him to adjust the tension manually with his right thumb, so that when slackened the bow hair could be made to play all four strings simultaneously. The strain on that thumb was such that Telmanyi considered abandoning his special bow, until in 1953 a violin-maker named Vestergaard constructed a similar bow where the thumb could change the tension mechanically by operating a kind of gear lever".
