This is an auction for a very rare LP, Ballet Music From The Opera, Various, Fistoulari, Paris Conservatoire Orchestra.

This was released by RCA records in 1960 and has catalogue number SB-2094. This is the very rare 1st pressing with a red label and silver lettering. A deep circular groove runs around the label. The RCA circular logo also printed in silver is at 12 o'clock, with the words 'Living Stereo' printed astride the logo. This label is some times referred to as 'ERI' ( English RCA 1st Label).

The following is all pictured below on supersize and will clarify the following.

Condition: The sleeve has some light discolouring and a few discreet dirt marks, some of which will clean of the laminated front and rear edge. This also has buffing to the corners, with the top left corner also having some creasing, probably where knocked. Under closer examination a few lamination creases and 4 pencil marks can be seen on the rear, these of course can be removed. Spine & Edges Ex, No Tears, Bends or Creases, Mouth fine, lamination at mouth fine. Complete and graded at VG+. Please check the pictures a nice sleeve.

This comes with its original inner sleeve which has a little yellowing and a pen mark in the top right corner. No tears or edge splits.

Label 1 is immaculate and as new, Under the closest of examinations perhaps 2 or 3 tiny spider spindle trails can be seen only. The centre hole is perfect and shows no sign of wear.

Label 2 is also immaculate and as new. Perhaps 3 or 4 tiny spindle trails can be counted on this side, these of course can only be seen under a very strong light. The centre hole on this side has a tiny amount of wear seen at 4 o'clock to the very centre hole, fussy but accurate.

Vinyl: Side 1 retains its brand new rainbow shine and looks new. Tilted under a very bright light two tiny marks can be seen, one is a feather scratch with the other being a mark approx the size of half a grain of rice. I have play tested this and can happily report this plays very well indeed. This has a fine quiet entry, this then goes on to play almost perfectly with a touch of very quiet feckling heard in a few places. This very quiet crackling can be tied in with the mark mentioned above, as once cleared it sounds as new with only one or two quiet crackles heard through out the rest of this side. There are no loud pops or ticks indicating the feather scratch is non-audible, the breaks between tracks is fantastic and silent. The music itself plays strong with no distortion or fading heard whatsoever. This side has hardly been played hence there is very little lessening in sound quality and plays as Near Mint.

Side 2 also looks brand new and retains that new rainbow shine. Tilted under a very bright light one tiny feather scratch, a couple of fading lines and one tiny pimple can be seen. The feather scratch and fading lines are completely non-audible. The pimple gives a quiet audible pop near the end of this side. Otherwise this side plays pretty much like side one with a few very quiet crackles heard only. Quiet entries and breaks between records, the music itself plays strong through out with no fading or distortion heard whatsoever. This side plays with very little lessening in sound quality and like side one has hardly been played. This side is also graded at Near Mint.

This record is graded at Near Mint.

I have been discussing with some interest whether it is actually possible to get a classical record recorded live in 1960 which plays with no feckling whatsoever and as such would be graded at mint. If you consider how this was recorded and then transferred on to vinyl and that the music itself is almost silent in places, it would have to be some fantastic equipment to achieve this in 1960. Also, if you consider that this record is 49 years old and the only audible pop is made by the pimple, which was almost definitely done at time of pressing, I doubt it would be possible.

Anycase this is the next best thing and probably as good as you can find this RCA classical LP, the labels rarest infact.

A fantastic collectable and one I strongly recommend.
