Light up the day with this stunning debut album from MGMT-esque New Zealanders Balu Brigada. The single 'Sideways' from this debut album is packed with catchy melodies and memorable hooks and captures their playful and confident sound. 'Backseat' has a fuller sound and is a bit darker with aggrieved lyrical narrative and gritty beats. Elsewhere, 'The Question' is an atmospheric splicing of synth pop, hip-hop and garage rock guitars that make for a compelling sonic tapestry to weave in the lovelorn mood in the lyrics. Given how massive this sounds, you'd think that they were in the studio with some bigwig producer but it was written and entirely produced by both members - Pierre and Henry Beasley - whilst on the road touring. Hats off to that.
