You are bidding on one 16-inch vinyl radio transcription disc containing 30 minutes of live jazz from the Mutual radio series “Bandstand U.S.A” #23 as broadcast to our troops overseas circa May 1958.

From Ben Harriman’s New York Café Metropole at 7th Avenue & 48th street, it’s the Metropole All-Stars, with house band leader, Henry “Red” Allen, Buster Bailey. Claude Hopkins, Gene Rayme(?), J.C. Higgenbotham with Coleman Hawkins sitting in. “I Would do Anything for Your”, “Basin Street Blues”, and “Song of the Islands” are featured.

The second portion of the program brings Bobby Hackett’s Jazz Group from the Voyager Room at the Hotel Hudson playing “Ill Wind”, “It. Don’t Mean a Thing”, “Swiss Criss”, “Lady With the Lavender Hair”, and “Cancel the Flowers”.

On the reverse of the disc is the radio show “Mystery Time” #71 from December 1958 with a tale written by Robert Steven Brody, entitled “All Damages Covered”, where a woman attempts to get away with murder, but can’t get away from her own conscience. 25 minutes.

The disc is in good to very good condition with very good sound. Note there is a light grease pencil circle on the disc to mark the switch over between live jazz locations that will need to be cleaned.

These recordings are from the estate collection of a former radio broadcaster and producer who hosted his own jazz and blues show while serving in the military.
