Completed the line-up of Banzai with four members they publish a first LP under the same title ‘Banzai’. The success of this former effort moved the band to fight for new and higher rewards. ‘Duro y Potente’ is the second release and the consolidation of the band in the Spanish Metal scene. It was recorded in the Mediterraneo Studios owned by Dave Holland in Ibiza. As a foot note, we must mention that for the new album the band counted with the services of a fifth member in charge of the keyboards, in this case Danny Peyronnel (who eventually will enter UFO and the Argentinan combo Riff). Talking about ‘Duro y Potente’, it means the top in Banzai’s story, being a heavy release, combining elegance and strength and full of power. Asthe highlights of the disc we might talk about ‘Luces’, ‘Crimen y castigo’, ‘Grita’ and the song that gives name to the cd ‘Duro y Potente’. Vocalist Jose Antonio Manzano (new in the band) has always been recognized as one of the greatest voices in the Spanish Metal, however the production does not make justice to his work and the voice appears in the final mix as very low to me (he would take revenge of this injustice in the following tour with the band). Axe-man Salvador Dominguez displays his amazing riffing and soloing all along the record, leaving real testament of how a guitar should sound in a heavy album. The choruses are designed to be followed and enjoyed by the public in the live performances. The record finishes with the obliged ballad of any 80’s metal release, in this case ‘Se termino’. Duro y Potente’ was well received by the fans and with it Banzai lived the best moment of its short career, as this was just its second and last studio release. At the time the band was even sharing some popularity in Spain beside acclaimed acts as Baron Rojo and Obus. A band that probably deserved a better luck and future.
