THIS DOUBLE live album displays all the flamboyance associated with the burgeoning progressive rock scene - long songs, wistful lyrical content and a penchant for the epic, with both guitar and mellotron to the fore. That they specialised in convoluted composition is no secret and for the most part you’ll be hard pressed to find a song under the five-minute mark, with several lasting in excess of ten-minutes apiece. These are serious works, constructed with a delicate sense of consequence, in much the same manner as Pink Floyd. ‘After The Day’ is a bountiful example of this judicious, and prodigious, devotion to form, with a swirling introduction giving way to a confessional guitar solo that pays homage to Dave Gilmore. This unmasking is continued through a number of the BJH classics, including ‘Medicine Man’ and ‘The Great 1974 Mining Disaster’, the latter a charitable nod in the direction of their neighbours, some might say nemesis, the Moody Blues.
The band's most formidable and intuitive composition is ‘Mocking Bird’, a mini-anthem and encore favourite which builds in typical fashion from almost inaudible beginnings through to a surging, hysterical, climax topped off with a faint and almost apologetic “Thank you, good night” coda. A fitting conclusion.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Superb clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks on labels and absolutely no other signs of any use. All four sides grade as shop fresh MINT!
Cover: Again, no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated gate-fold cover - often prone to wear but this one is in great shape displaying original printers bloom. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfect - straight, stiff and completely uncrushed. Original hype sticker on front cover. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 45 years after release. Grades as top shop fresh MINT!
