There's a point in Sit, Sleep where you don't know whether to sit up and listen intently, or close your eyes and enjoy some time on the brink of slumber, that ambient place where realities and fantasies seem to drift into one another. Bardo Pond's lasting legacy will always be the kind of tracks that seem to blur lines between worlds, both stylistically and in terms of form. At times abstract, in other moments the perfectly formed solid wall of white noise.
This, Volume 1, was the first in a series of eight EPs that span 18 years, starting out in 2000 and then opting for one in the saga each year through to 2005. At which point things got much more sporadic. Timelines aside, the tracks here are a great introduction both the outfit themselves and the Volume concept - basically experimental improvisation that pulls you between acid rock, noise, shoegaze, and space.
