NEW SOUND FROM ITALY The Basso Valdambrini Octet
Original 1960 JOLLY RECORDS 1st MONO pressing, cat. LPJ 5007, Italy.
RARE, original Italian version on Jolly with blue and silver deep grooved labels. Laminated flipback sleeve. Comes with original inner sleeve.
Recorded in Milan, December 17, 1959 (tracks A2, A4, B1, B3); Milan, December 21, 1959 (tracks A1, A3) and Milan, December 23, 1959 (track B2).
Following the success of the first LP by the Basso Valdambrini Quintet from 1959, the producer Walter Gurtler quickly recorded a second set of music in a comparable Californian/Cool Jazz vein. These recordings feature the original Basso-Valdambrini Quintet but with Franco Cerri at the contrabass and Jimmy Pratt on the drums, plus an additional brass section.
