King's third album didn't have any hits or well-known standards of his repertoire, though one of the tracks, "The Woman I Love," became a small hit after getting overdubbed years later. The influence of big band jazz is actually fairly prominent here, with saxes and trumpet playing a big part in the arrangements. Jump blues like "I've Got Papers on You, Baby" and ballads like "The Fool" veer almost as close to jazz as blues with their brassiness, though cuts like "Sweet Thing," "We Can't Make It," and "The Woman I Love" put the slow-burning, guitar-oriented blues for which King is most known closer to the core. Elsewhere King puts shades of gospel ("Come by Here") and doo wop ("I Love You So") into his brand of polished urban blues. The 2003 CD reissue on Ace adds eight bonus tracks, including previously unissued takes of "You've Been an Angel" and "Why I Sing the Blues," as well as the previously unissued "Yesterday," which comes close to pop balladry (and is not the same tune as the Beatles song of that name). Also on hand as additional items are some other odds and ends from his Modern label days that were deemed to fit in with the album's jazzy mood, including a cover of "Trouble in Mind" and collaborations with the Count Basie Orchestra (on "Everyday I Have the Blues") and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (on "Yes, Indeed!").

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 3:1.

(d)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(e)           True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some visible ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 6   (front side) and 4 (back side).

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side  (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-         Cover has a partially split spine (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the back panel

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
