Another from my personal collection! This album was purchased from new in 1971! Initially only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the cover for protection, this is how I have always stored my records! This album rarely surfaces for sale, especially in this condition! The audio is graded at near mint, as heard on my system. Play tested prior to this listing at very loud volume using a dedicated mono cartridge! There are no clicks or pops and no skips or jumps! Please note allowences must be made for some of the early recordings on this album, which were taken from some of the original masters! A rare and scarce album by one of the greatest blues artist of all time!

Riley B. King (born September 16, 1925), known by the stage name B.B. King ("B.B." short for Blues Boy), is an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter acclaimed for his expressive singing and fluid, complex guitar playing. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at No.3 on its list of the "100 greatest guitarists of all time"

King was born in Indianola, Mississippi, to Albert King and Nora Ella Farr. In 1930, when King was four years old, his father abandoned the family, and his mother married another man. Because Nora Ella was too poor to raise her son, King was raised by his maternal grandmother Elnora Farr in Kilmichael, Mississippi.

King grew up singing in the gospel choir at Elkhorn Baptist Church in Kilmichael. At age 12, he purchased his first guitar for $15.00 although another reference indicates he was given his first guitar by his cousin, Bukka White.

In 1943, King left Kilmichael to work as a tractor driver and play guitar with the Famous St. John's Quartet of Inverness, Mississippi, performing at area churches and on WGRM in Greenwood, Mississippi.

In 1946, King followed his cousin Bukka White to Memphis, Tennessee. White took him in for the next ten months. However, King shortly returned to Mississippi, where he decided to prepare himself better for the next visit, and returned to West Memphis, Arkansas, two years later in 1948. He performed on Sonny Boy Williamson's radio program on KWEM in West Memphis, Arkansas where he began to develop a local audience for his sound. King's appearances led to steady engagements at the Sixteenth Avenue Grill in West Memphis and later to a ten-minute spot on the legendary Memphis radio station WDIA. "King's Spot," became so popular, it was expanded and became the "Sepia Swing Club."

Initially he worked at the local R&B radio station WDIA as a singer and disc jockey, where he gained the nickname "Beale Street Blues Boy", later shortened to "B.B." It was there that he first met T-Bone Walker. "Once I'd heard him for the first time, I knew I'd have to have [an electric guitar] myself. 'Had' to have one, short of stealing!", he said!

 The Matrix

Side 1. ''2431004 A#1''  (only 1st press)

Side2. ''2341004 B#1'' (only 1st press)

The Vinyl

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable. On initial inspection the vinyl indeed looks almost as new in my opinion. As good as the day I purchased it over 40 years ago! Unbeleivably rare to find like this!

Any marks that could possibly be seen angled to the light would be sleeve removal only, to be honest I can't see anything this look like a new vinyl in my personal opinion, !

The vinyl

I have play tested the vinyl prior to this listing at loud volume on a top system,, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! The vinyl plays through as good as the day I purchased this over 40 years ago, Stunningly clear and vibrant throughout! Almost as good as it gets! Any odd static/tick that is common on these original Blue Horizon pressing are very very minimal a few and far between! Allowances must be made for the early recordings on this album which were taken from the original masters! Audio is graded at least excellent plus to near as mint on my systems!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for very minor static/tick, isolated surface noise on some early recordings,, not consistant throughout the audio,, Please remember that this is a 40 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 40 year old system!

Please note! This vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 40 years,, A constant clean before each play is highly recomended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality!

The Labels

These are the original 1st issue (white with blue text) Blue Horizon labels . Look superbe, Amaizingly I can just see one spider trace only on side B.! This vinyl has had less than a handfull of plays only! there are just two light grubby marks that can be seen on side b. No spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve.

This is a plain white poly lined sleeve.

The Cover

This is the original E.J.Day & co UK printed unlaminated cover! any storage ware rubbing or creases are very minimal indeed,  and only really noticable if scrutinised in my opinion.Very minor rubbing at the edges.spine and at the front (see photos) There are no splits or tares and no nasty names written. All text is legable.  Cover graded at least excellent if not better!
