Description
I have been an obsessive collector of vinyl LP's and singles for many years, and from the very first I have always been very careful about the condition of the records I have bought. Once in my posession the records have been well stored and always very carefully handled. If the records have been played at all, it has always been on a good quality hi - fi system, the deck being a Linn LP12 deck with a top of the range arm and cartridge.
As a result, most of the many thousands of items in my collection are in excellent condition or better.
Now, in order to create more space at home, I have decided to cut the collection back to a core of my personal favourite artistes, and to dispose of the remainder. These I intend to list for auction over the coming months.
For auction here is a totally original copy of the 'Ten Little Indians', 7-inch single from the Beach Boys on the Capitol label, number 45-CL-15285; the 'B' Side is 'County Fair', and this pressing dates from 1963 according to the 2008 'Record Collector Price Guide'.
This is the second UK release by the Beach Boys on the Capitol label, the first being the quite common 'Surfin' Safari'. It is by far and away the rarest of all the Beach Boys UK releases on Capitol, and what is more, unbelieveably, this is a Demo copy of this release.
This copy is without its Capitol sleeve, although I possibly might be able to locate a suitable contemporaneous one from another single in my collection. The original cover would have been the common black and white 'Capitol/EMI' sleeve, it was never issued with a picture cover so the fact the original sleeve is missing isn't of great consequence. This copy has been stored in a clear plastic sleeve so it has been well protected. The vinyl is bright, with a light scuff mark on one area, with the odd thumbprint, and a light tracing of dust - it would definitely benefit from a clean. There are no scratches - I simply wouldn't have a scratched record in my collection and take the risk of it damaging my stylus. There is a small circular label on the 'A' Side - see my picture. There isn't any heavy wear around the spindle-hole. In short a good example in Ex- condition, sure to please the keenest collectors.
I cannot stress enough the stock copy of this single is very rare. To locate a Demo copy of this single bearing the big red 'A' on the 'A' Side, and carrying the legend: 'Demonstration Record - Not For Sale' on both sides, is a Beach Boys collector's wildest dream.
I purchased this copy many years ago from a stock sale at a local radio station. Other examples of demo 45's I purchased at the same time will be listed shortly, including a further Beach Boys Capitol example.
