BEASTIE BOYS 'License to Ill' Picture Disc LP 80s Hip Hop Classic

FORTY years ago, back in 1986, NYC's The Beastie Boys blew everyone away with their debut album. 'License to Ill' paved the way for many hip hop artists that followed. It sold millions of copies, and proved to the record companies that this was a commercially viable form of music. The songs were played on the radio, and in clubs. The band got so big that Madonna asked them to open up for her. There was a giant toilet on stage, and that gig turned out to be a bit of a disaster, but The Beastie Boys would not be deterred! Later becoming one of the biggest bands in the world, they pretty much grew up in the 90s, and became socially responsible. They also experimented with different types of music, and they now have an incredible musical legacy left to the world!

The debut album went on to sell over TEN million copies, here in the US alone! Produced by Rick Rubin, and on Def Jam Records (by way of Colimbia Records), it was the FIRST rap hip hop album to make it to the number 1 spot on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart! This band made it possible for SO many others, that are rap and hip hop artists, to this very day. In 2012, nearly twenty years ago, founding member Adam "MCA" Yauch lost his battle with cancer. (RIP MCA, the world misses you!)

On the auction block today is an EXTREMELY RARE and SCARCE copy of that groundbreaking and influential debut album, on a 12" picture disc LP! These don't come around very often. And you don't have to play your picture disc (though you can, as the modern era pic discs usually sound great!), as I'll add a copy of 'License to Ill' on CD! The vinyl looks fantastic, and is all shiny and clean. This will come in a clear plastic sleeve. The CD is also all shiny and clean, though opened. Both items can pass for new!
