Description

PLEASE READ FIRST!

I'm having to make this even clearer as people are still buying records I'm grading low and as a 'collection filler', and then complain about the audio quality when they try to play them. As I do not own a record player I VISUALLY GRADE my records, so I cannotguarantee that discs will be click, skip and noise free (although any marks that may cause such problems will be highlighted in the description).

All photos are of the actual item on sale. I do not use stock or 'borrowed' images.

THE BEATLES
Please Please Me
MEGA RARE Early Mono Press with 33 1/3 Prefix!

On offer here is an original early UK press of the Beatles debut LP 'Please Please Me' on the Parlophone. This early copy features the insanely rare '33 1/3' prefix on the labels!

Back when this album was initially in production, EMI used up the remaining 'gold' style labels and soon switched to the more common 'yellow' style labels. However, they initially did not change the label print blocks which had included a tiny '33 1/3' speed prefix to the right of the matrix number. The problem is that the newer yellow style labels already had the 33 1/3 speed prefix prominently shown at the top left. Therefore there was no need for this smaller prefix and so was almost instantly removed.

Today it is almost impossible to find copies of this album with this erroneous 33 1/3 prefix and so, today, are very highly collectible!

Comes in it's original 'gold' sleeve that has the Angus McBean credit aligned to the right edge of the S (as you can see in the photos below).

Not in top condition, but still respectable, and would make a perfect collection filler at an affordable price!

Please check out large, detailed photos of this record at the bottom of this listing.

Title Please Please Me Year of Release 1963 Catalogue Number PMC 1202 Label Yellow / black Parlophone with additional 33 1/3 prefix and no 'Recording' text. Tax Code on Disc MT Sleeve Manufacturer Ernest J. Day Side 1 Matrix Number XEX 421-1N Side 2 Matrix Number XEX 422-1N Side 1 Stampers 2 / RR Side 2 Stampers 1 / GT Cover Condition The cover is in FAIR/GOOD condition. The sleeve is holding up okay but is showing its age with creases and the like. The pictures below tell the best story. Top and bottom seams are both holding but have wear along them. The spine has a few creases running through it but is holding fine. The back is free from writing but has browned slightly with a little discolouration. There's a split at the bottom where the back is attached to the overflap. It's under 'long play...' and is about 3 inches long. Inner Sleeve Condition The inner sleeve is in VG condition. The inner sleeve is the original tracing paper lined inner. It has creasing and disc impression as you can see, but generally it's in very good condition and has no splits or tears. Inserts Condition - Disc Condition
(VISUALLY GRADED) The disc is in FAIR/GOOD condition. The disc looks well played and has light scuffs all over the playing surface with some heavier looking scuffmarks on side 1. Doesn't look trashed but should be considered a collection filler! Label Condition The labels are in GOOD/VG condition. The labels are clean but have some wear as you can see in the photos below.

My Vinyl Grading:

MINT No true preowned disc can be mint. The highest I will ever grade a disc is NM+/M- if it looks untouched and unplayed, but the MINT description will only be for records I personally know have never been played (i.e. I personally bought from new) or for copies that are still sealed. NEAR MINT (NM) For discs that look near flawless and which may have just the slightest, barely visible little whispy marks here and there. EXCELLENT (EX) For discs that still retain a brilliant, clean shine but does have some light scuffs here and there. VERY GOOD (VG) For discs that still look clean and have a nice shine to them, but do have a fair amount of light scuffmarks and/or some light scratches. GOOD (G) For discs that look like they have been loved and have a fair amount of scuffs and surface scratches. Not in terrible condition, but would look like it would play with a lot of crackle. FAIR (F) For discs that may have some life left in them but are pretty trashed with numerous surface scuffs and heavier scuffs and scratches etc POOR (P) For discs that are unplayable and look completely trashed. Discs like this would only ever be offered if they were insanely rare.
