Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

Currently having a clearout of records that should be considered more 'collection fillers'. Not in the best condition, but still pretty decent or hard to get ahold of.

Introducing... the Beatles

This listing is for an original, 100% authentic copy of the Beatles debut US LP 'Introducing the Beatles' on the VeeJay label.

This particular copy is a 'crossover' issue as it features a Version 2 disc in a Version 1 sleeve. After the LP was recalled a small number of version 2 discs were distributed in the version 1 sleeves, possibly so that VeeJay would have less waste from the recall and therefore less costs.

After Capitol refused to publish any of the Beatles music in America, George Martin set about trying to secure a deal with a smaller record label. Vee Jay, a small, Gospel label, took them on.

The album was initially released with the tracks 'P. S. I Love You' and 'Love Me Do' but Capitol ironically owned the publishing rights to these songs and VeeJay soon had to replace the tracks with 'Ask Me Why' and 'Please Please Me'. These first 'Version 1' albums are very rare. The 'Version 2' copies with the replaced tracks are much easier to find.

Initially the album did nothing, but after Beatlemania broke out in America VeeJay realised that they had an album of Beatles music just sitting there, and decided to go all out subcontracting a number of pressing plants to get as many copies as they could of the album out to the stores. Capitol soon took them to court and won, giving VeeJay just a few months before they had to give the rights back to them. When Capitol got them back they reissued them as 'Early Beatles' which bombed pretty badly.

The Version 1 cover is 100% authentic and passes all of the tests to prove that it is genuine. The cover is textured and not smooth and has a semi-laminate shine to it. The colours are natural and George has his shadow. The word 'HONEY' for A Taste of Honey is intact and the inside of the mouth, at the top and bottom, has the 1/4" long flaps. Fakes have much longer flaps.

The version 2 disc also passes all of tests to prove it's authenticity. The deadwax is less than an inch thick, 'The Beatles' is printed above the spindlehole (fakes have it printed below) and the deadwax features the 'Audiomatrix' stamp - something that only features of authentic presses. The deadwax also carries the ARC mark, showing that this particular pressing was produced at the Allentown Record Co. Inc. in Pennslvania.
