Genuine and Authentic 1966 Capitol Records T2553 Scanton PA #3 Peeled Mono Butcher Cover. 
We realize that you have many choices out there in regard to purchasing a Butcher Cover and advise that you look carefully at all the offerings out there and read the actual descriptions before purchasing. The actual value in relation to these covers is not unlike real estate or automobiles in that the value is generally directly related to a number of factors such as the overall physical condition of the album jacket and the actual quality of the peel. We believe in quality over quantity when it comes to these particular highly prized collectibles.
Interestingly, this particular Butcher Cover is what's referred to as a "Cut Out" in the record industry. Retailers, after so many months, had the right of return of unsold stock back to the distributors in regard to retail phonograph records. These records were distributed to retail stores by "One Stops" and "Rack Jobbers" and these distributors would often get these back from the stores (unsold still sealed stock) and have the same right of return to the actual Record Company within a certain time window. These records would then have a punch or hole in the corner designating it as a cut out so that it could not be returned again. Generally, these albums would then be re-sold at stores with the "cut out" mark at a reduced price. While some may claim that this particular specimen is a "promo" copy, it is unlikely and far more likely that it is simply a "cut out". 
Very reasonable opening price for a peel of this quality. Many of our genuine Butcher Covers are purchased by dealers and then resold at higher prices. This has happened repeatedly in the recent past and only verifies that our prices are more than fair. While the Butcher Cover has been described in collecting circles as "the most common rare record", let's face it, 80 to 90% have been destroyed by horrible to mediocre overhyped peels. The market continues to be flooded with amateur peels. Not the case here. This is an awesome piece of Rock and Roll History !

Butcher Covers in particular have steadily risen in value over the last few years and are fetching crazy numbers in high profile catalog auctions. Unfortunately, too many covers continue to be severely damaged by amateur peels and it pays to invest wisely and carefully consider the quality of the peel when investing in a 3rd state (peeled) cover. Condition: 
Butcher Cover is awesome and something that any fan would treasure. Compare this to what is offered on the web in a similar price range and we're sure you'll agree that this is in the top 5% as far as peels are concerned. Glue residue/Capitol factory brush lines from application of that adhesive (at the original Capitol pressing plant) used to adhere the trunk cover are not too distracting on this one but please take your time and look at the photos carefully before making your mind up. The Capitol Scranton record jackets in particular used a brush type system that created streaks and even occasionally smears to the Butcher cover print and this process is most prominent near Paul's knees on this particular jacket. Nothing too terrible though and no large rips to the Butcher slick. Any touch up appears to be very minimal.  Please see photos and text below for further more specific details about the actual physical condition of the jacket .
Seams: 
Top seam is complete with just a hint of wear/slight crack towards the very last 1/4" of that seam. Bottom seam appears also intact with the very same wear/slight crack at the very end tip. Please see photos. Given the age of the seams and to preserve their nice condition, a vinyl record/inner sleeve should never be attempted to be placed or stored in the album jacket ! The record in these valuable old albums should always be stored separately. Even with a jacket with the best seams, there is a danger of this old paper cracking. (See seam Photos)
Spine:
Spine writing is complete but there is some typical light checking on the spine but all the paper is there. (See Close Up Spine Photo). 
Back Of Jacket: 
Back is very clean with no serious ring wear, writing or other unsightly issues. Just some light aging/foxing and a few small spots. (See photo of Back)
Trunk Slick: 
Sorry, but there is no trunk slick included in this auction. This was purchased from a local customer who tried peeling this but had the good sense to stop before causing any serious damage (see last photo of cover before peeling). 
Record/Inner Sleeve: 
Original mono Scranton record is included which exhibits sleeve scuffs and scratches. Play graded on a Numark PT- 01 not completely terrible but not great either. Initially, it skipped about a minute into "Drive My Car" but this resolved after a cleaning. Whomever owned this liked "Day Tripper" as this song exhibits the most static type background noise and appears to have been played many times.Other than this, the record is ok and seems to play through. Would conservatively grade it somewhere between Fair to Good.There was a 1966 Goldenrod Capitol Records Inner Sleeve is included that matches the same "cut out" hole but does have tape at the bottom and both sides.

This item has been through a laborious process from the 2nd state to what you see here, and as such, the grading is unique on this item. Capitol Factory glue lines, glue residue and touch up is a fact of life, and some will remain to preserve the printing integrity of the original Butcher Slick. This cannot be graded like a comic book or a baseball card due to the fact that this jacket has twice been altered from its original state, once by the paste over process at the Capitol Factory and likewise by the peeling process. Any minor imperfections are from either process. The photos speak for themselves and we do our best to accurately grade these historic artifacts.
