RELISTED, this got to $314 at E Bay auction last week, but did not make my reserve, so here it is relisted with NO RESERVE. Good Luck.
This is an original New Zealand Apple 45 NZP3329 with a censored version of "The Ballad Of John and Yoko" - the word Christ has been overdubbed with a drumbeat fill (taken from elsewhere in the recording!)
CONDITION (UK Record Collector Grading): visually EX-. Has very moderate wear, play grades easily as EX.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY. Please read the following as I have been asked quite a few questions, due to the fact that this 45 is so rare and very few people are even aware of it's existance.
This is not an acetate. This is an EMI pressed 45 bearing identical labels to the version available in the shops, with the following to differentiate it from the standard commercial release.
- No matrix on the A side. I have included in pics a shot of the commercial issue, this is missing on the other issue. The B side HAS the normal matrix 7xce21307!!
- "NZBC" sticker (New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation).
It appears that a small custom run of vinyl 45's was pressed by EMI purely for radio broadcast on the NZBC network. Who provided the dub is a mystery, whether this was provided by EMI UK, or done locally by EMI in NZ or even at behest of NZBC and then pressed up by EMI.
In 1969 there were only around a dozen state controlled stations as part of the NZBC network - and hence if 1 or 2 copies were done for each station at max that makes 25 copies if that. There was no private radio network at the time excepting NZ's pirate Radio Hauraki which would have played the commercial version for sure.
This is one case on E Bay where I can confidently use the term mega rare and say that you are unlikely to ever see one of these come up for sale again. Most NZBC (now Radio New Zealand)regional radio station record libraries sent in their remaining vinyl stocks in the early 90's to a central stock, and a search of those recently turned up no copies.
I will be including a copy of the commercially available 45 with this sale.
Scans show the NZBC label, and the commercial" label, the A side matrix (missing from NZBC copy). I have also shown is my own personal copy of the radio station library sheet with details of play dates, intro/duration/cue times. I will include an exact copy of this in high quality colour on card with the winning copy.
First class airmail postage will be charged at exact cost and notified to the successful bidder once destination known. I would suggest insured/registered mail.

I have set a very fair minimum and NO RESERVE, but consider that this 45 is historically important and unique, and would rate rarer than any UK or US demo/promo 45. You will be unlikelyy to see another due to the EXTREMELY limited number of copies that ever existed.
