PLEASE NOTE:  Records are visually inspected and then played in order to come up with a meaningful evaluation. Every mark, mar, imperfection, scratch and countless other potential anomalies are not considered individually and certainly not singled out unless they are heard in the play process, but rather lumped together in things such as “occasional light paper scratches” for example. If I can’t hear it on the playback, I obviously won’t comment on it. I use a Music Hall 9.1, a Music Hall 5.1 or an AR “The Turntable” with either a Goldring Eroica MC, or Goldring 2200 MM or a Denon A100 MC cartridge depending on the turntable. So please do not assume, as occasionally I get comments, that I should have noted something in the listing when you might hear and I don’. I think the feedback speaks for itself and after selling close to 6,000 records since 1999, I will do my best to deliver to you the best product I can. I can’t guarantee that with your cartridge, turntable and set-up you won’t hear something I don’t but I can guarantee that I won’t send anything that is intentionally below my high standards.

If you have never heard this box set then you are in for a treat. I have never heard the Beatles sound better with good low end extension and clarity and punch. It was a real revelation to hear the Beatles recordings sound this good. It wasn’t the planned boredom of MFSL. These discs have life and excitement but they are not harsh.

Every notable Beatles song is here with many such as “LET IT BE” with a much different mix. Close listening will reveal the differences that you have heard in the official UK and USA mixes. Unlike the other box sets which are usually based upon the UK official releases, this is a “Greatest Hits” compilation with the songs on the discs organized around their recording dates. Each jacket has information explaining the recording dates and general history of the Beatles at the time.

The box is in very fine shape. It has a slight outer paper folding in one small corner of the spine and there is some wear on the other side opposite the spine. None of these are in any way deal breakers so to speak.  The inner disc jackets are in super shape with virtually no wear. The faces (front and back) of each jacket have the look, feel and texture of new. The only visible problem I saw was some jackets have the slightest (almost unnoticeable) the beginnings of a slight, slight split. You have to look twice to even notice this but the vinyl is thin and the jackets are like inner jackets of a normal LP. If the records were not stored in the jackets before I bought the box set, there would be no issue even though this is not much of an issue at this time. The buyer will receive the discs in new MFSL sleeves stored outside the thin card jackets.

I played all 16 sides.  The records have mirror-like shine. The sound was stunning as I said above. I know the owner who bought this box set new from a local boutique 1980 and he said he never played most of the discs. It certainly seemed like it. I cleaned every disc with my 16.5 VPI and there is virtually no groove grit/surface noise but you will hear occasionally a tick or a pop from the vinyl. Side 14 has two very, very light hairline paper-like scratches that  I could not hear with my Eroica but be prepared that there will be a pop or tick her and there. It is vinyl and really like-new vinyl but it is still vinyl. By no means is it annoying or repetitive or overbearing. I could not see or hear any other appreciable issues with these discs.

This is a super box set. I have described in this detail since I want the buyer to be happy. I am extremely critical and that is reflected in what I buy and what I keep. This is definitely a keeper. I can’t see how anyone would not be pleased since the issues are slight and very few.
