“BEATLES FOR SALE” – Yellow & Black label
UNIQUE "1G" MOTHER/STAMPER CODE - IN OTHER WORDS, THE FIRST COPY OF THIS LP OFF THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!!!
Features:
1. Original 1964 1st pressing of “Beatles for Sale”.
2. PMC 1240 MONO with matrix numbers XEX 503-3N (Side 1) & XEX 504-4N (Side 2)
3. Tax Code embossed ‘KT’ on Side 1.
4. Mother/Stamper numbers are Side 1 = 1/G & Side 2 = 1/RM
What does this mean?
Mother code – The ‘mother’ is a soft alluminum metal disc containing the finished album's master tapes. This is used as the basis for pressing vinyl copies. As each ‘mother’ wore out, a new one was used to press the next batch of vinyl. The number of the ‘mother’, from which a record is pressed, can be found at the 9 o’clock position in the dead wax. No. 1 is therefore the first mother disc used.
Stamper code - The letter(s) in the 3 o’clock position of the dead wax represent the order in which this particular side of the record was pressed in the pressing sequence. EMI used a 10 digit code based upon "G R A M O P H L T D" to indicate the pressing number of the vinyl - with "G" being 1, "R" being 2, through "D" which is 0 e.g GR = 12 GRD = 120. Letter G is therefore the first pressing from this particular mother disc.
In a nutshell, this means that this record was the
1st ever "Beatles for Sale" album to be pressed!!!!!
5. Has "The Parlophone Co" & "Recording 1st Published 1964" & “Sold in the UK” references.
6. Gatefold cover in excellent condition. Front and rear covers have no tears, marks, doodles or writing. Spine is clear and has no fraying. Fantastic really for its age. Please note that the photo looks like there is creasing on the cover - there is not. It is just the flash reflection that makes it look like this.
7. Laminated cover with outline MONO lettering in the front top right corner.
8. Yellow and black labels.
9. Original EMI inner sleeve in very good condition.
10. The LP itself is a thick vinyl pressing that retains its gloss. No warping at all. Both sides are in excellent condition.
11. Labels are in excellent condition.
Those of you who know about Beatles collectables will realise just how
rare/unique this LP is.............. it needs to go to a good home or museum.

Just as a note of interest, I purchased this LP from a guy that inhereted a close relative's extensive Beatles collection when he died. Apparently, the relative bought all Beatles LPs as soon as they were released in the 1960/70s and also snaffled up lots of Beatles rarities at Southebys/ Christies auctions - including lots of stuff that was auctioned from the John Lennon estate.
