Up for auction is the 12" vinyl LP A Hard Day's Night, the third LP release from the one and only Beatles.

What we have here is the New Zealand mono release PMCM.1230 on the light blue Parlophone label which started production at the end of 1964. This disc would have been the second pressing of this title (the first appearing earlier on a black & silver label.)

The vinyl may be nearly 50 years old, but WOW does it sound great! It actually surprised me when I gave it a quick spin just now. If you want perfect sound reproduction then you've got the recent mono remasters, but this is how Beatles music was meant to sound! Punchy, bright and in mono, baby! That opening chord rings out and it's 1964 all over again! What's a little crackle between friends?

The vinyl is in very-good-ish condition, based on inspection under natural light. The vinyl retains some shine and most of the visible marks appear to be mainly cosmetic and quite shallow. It has numerous small scratches and light scuffing as is common with older discs, but only a few that are more obvious. I would rate it above average for Beatles discs of this vintage. This disc would most certainly be a keeper for any collector wishing to add this obscure New Zealand disc to their collection.

The record sleeve is also in decent condition, I would rate slghtly less than very good. The front looks sharp and clear, one blue pen mark in the upper right, which may be removable given the cover is laminated. Also a tear at the opening ~2cm in length. The wraparound "MONO" sticker has been partially removed from the top of the sleeve. The back cover shows some age wear and discolouration but is in solid nick, just a bit of wear to the lower tabs and a couple of small blue pen marks. There appears to have been some pencil marks removed in the upper right. The spine is almost entirely intact except for the word "Night" which is not visible due to wear. A record shop stamp is on the inside of the sleeve and is thus invisible from the outside.

The labels are in excellent condition and really look very nice with this attractive Parlophone label variation. Apart from some minor spindle marks, there are no tears, writing, stamps, stickers etc on the labels.
