A nice overall condition & presentable copy of this increasingly hard to find and sought after 1963 UK very early pressing Beatles classic on the yellow & black Parlophone label, 

MONO PMC 1202

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1    XEX 421 - 1N  with stampers "R 0" and "R R 1.1 at 8.30 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively 

Side 2    XEX 422 - 1N  with stampers "C 1 5" and "R W G at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock respectively

GRADINGS :

RECORD (Visual Grade / Condition Grade) :  Very Good plus (VG+) / very good plus (VG+)  Completely flat and heavy vinyl with lovely jet black sheen on both sides. Glossy in normal daylight though close scrutiny under a bright light reveals some wispy hairlines and a few extremely light papers scuffs on each side, and x3 slightly more visible but very small scuff marks on side 2 - nothing feelable and all appearing to be superficial - the impressive audio quality supports this view. A solid very good overall.

LABELS : Excellent overall with the silver text, matt black background, and yellow Parlophone writing and logo all beautifully intact. Just a few faint spindle trails on each label. Note the embossed "K" and "T" tax codes on the side 1 label, the "THE PARLOPHONE CO. LTD...." & "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED..." label texts, and the 1N/1N matrix numbering : all indicators of a very early UK pressing.

OUTER SLEEVE : Very Good (VG) : Ernest J. Day front side laminated with reverse side flipbacks, with no obvious cardboard creasing, firm edges with minimal scuffing and a rigid spine where all text remains perfectly intact. There are a few edge "nicks" on the bottom edge, however and obvious scuffing on each corner, especially the spine corners which I have shown in my photos. Furthermore, there are a number of 1-2 cm surface laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the front edges, and on the reverse side there is some sporadic light age discolouration (very mild) and a light yellow strip of discolouration next to the bottom edge where it is likely there was once a strip of sellotape. The x3 flipbacks themselves are in very nice condition, there are no seam splits, and the opening edges remain firm with no fraying. The reverse side is neat but does have a slight "ageing" appearance. 

INNER SLEEVE : Original "USE EMITEX" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" poly-lined, die-cut inner sleeve with no rips or tears, barely any discolouration and just a little mild creasing in the corners and a very small brown spot on the front side (see photo). NOTE that I will place the record into a plain white inner sleeve (and separate from the outer sleeve) in order to protect the original inner sleeve during posting.

AUDIO QUALITY : Very good plus (VG+) - at least, with great tone and clarity throughout and the mono audio quality is overall excellent. No repeats, jumps, sticks or intrusive clicking (I only noticed a single click, partway through "BABY IT'S YOU" and even that was light and unobtrusive). There is just the hint of some very light background crackle at the very beginning and very end of each side, and during a couple of the side 1 interludes, but this is negligible and does not impinge at all upon the truly impressive audio quality with every track making for a great listen.

In summary a nice condition copy of this increasingly hard to find 1963 first UK very early press Beatles classic (the mono sound quality is especially impressive and a real highlight)  - a worthy addition to any serious Beatles vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
