Description

Beatles * Please please me * Black and Gold

MEGA RARE!!  LP. Original 1963 UK. MONO

Very earliest FIRST PRESSING!!  Dick James credits.

Up for auction is this iconic Beatles First Album on its original Black and Gold Parlophone labels. Mega Rare First pressing. The First Pressings of course incorrectly credited Dick James on the labels to certain tracks. Those of you who are familiar with this anomaly will know the tracks I am referring to. On the later, second pressings, these anomalies were corrected to Northern Songs. These first issues on the black and gold labels were only being  pressed for a short time until EMI Parlophone changed the design and the colours to the more common Black/yellow version.

COVER:   This is Ex-: Original E. J. Day. Cover. Very clean back and front. Some very light laminate wrinkle. No writing. No tears. Just the usual light storage wear. Overall, a nice clean example with a lovely glossy front. This is far better than a lot I have seen being passed off as excellent. No feathering at the record opening. Spine is totally legible. This is a really good example of this difficult E. J. day cover.

VINYL:     Still retains a just pressed glossy sheen and is perfectly flat with no warps, skips or jumps.  Has obviously been played and does display a fair number of  stylus touches, two of which impose on several tracks and there are some light scuffs and hairlines. It is not mint. However, none of these indiscretions affect the ample MONO sounds and the playback is quite remarkable. There are no skips or jumps and  plays beautifully throughout all tracks.

LABELS:   Original Black and Gold Parlophone labels. One or two little patches have been previously coloured     where maybe a small label or something has been removed, one on each label. (See photo). Otherwise good, and still rare.  ZT Tax code.

MATRIX NUMBERS:  SIDE ONE:   XEX 421 1N

                                       SIDE TWO:  XEX 422 1N

STAMPERS:                 SIDE ONE:    1    L

SIDE TWO:   1    M  - making this example a very earliest FIRST PRESS.

INNER SLEEVE:          EX+.  Original polylined  'Emitex'  “Patents Applied For”    Type.

AUDIO:  Despite the obvious surface indiscretions, this vinyl plays amazingly beautifully with thumping MONO sounds. Just an odd incursion of static occasionally, but nothing too obtrusive or by any means hurtful on the ears. Definitely no skips or jumps. Great playback.

To sum up. This album is definitely a MUST HAVE ALBUM of very, very decent quality, and would certainly be a great addition to any existing collection.  The sounds are superb and truly classic. This rare album does not surface very often, so don’t miss out. Grab yourself a large slice of great musical history  -  and enjoy!!

A MUST HAVE ALBUM!!
