HERE is a presentable and playable copy of the very first UK pressing of the debut album by the greatest band of all time - Please Please Me by The Beatles. A piece of history. This example features the very first press Dick James credits, the very first black and gold labels and the Angus Bean photo credit to the far side of 'songs' on the front of the sleeve. Both black and gold labels have survived fairly well, with just a little (needle?) damage on side two, as can be seen in my photos. Typically, both sides of the disc bear plentiful marks of one kind or another, but there's nothing nasty - both sides play well, all the way through from beginning to end, with no skips and no jumps, but with a little expected background noise to be heard in between the tracks. The music itself is absolutely vibrant. Both matrices ends in 1N and the mother stampers are 2 - GM (side 1) and 1 - GA. If you were to press me I would grade this disc between Good+ and VG-. The front laminated first press Ernest J Day flipback sleeve with the correctly positioned first press photo credit is strong and presentable, with one or two areas of damage which can be seen in my photos, including some creasing along the top of the opening edge, what appears to be a horizontal factory crease in the lamination along the front right (the card itself is uncreased), some cornerwear, a little staining near the Angus McBean credit, and some damage/wear to the flipbacks. However, despite the aforementioned, you can see that this is a pretty respectable and above average example of this first press sleeve with (for once) no writing! If you were to press me I would grade this sleeve between Good+ and VG-. Good luck if you are bidding.
