Description
BEATLES - PLEASE PLEASE ME-BLACK/GOLD 1G & 1G MOTHER/STAMPERS.
1963 PMC 1202 - GOLD AND BLACK PARLOPHONE LABEL.
An original UK pressing of the VERY first Beatle LP, in 100% original condition, featuring the ‘Dick James’ publishing credits. This album is one of the first 300 copies ever pressed, this is confirmed by the Mother/Stampers ‘1G and 1G’ engraved either side of the record into the run off grooves. THERE ARE NO OTHER NUMBERS OR LETTERS IN THE RUN OFF GROVES EXCEPT ‘1G’ ON SIDE ONE AND ‘1G’ ON SIDE TWO !, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE LIKE THIS I HAVE EVER SEEN, YOU READ ABOUT IT, BUT HERE IT IS !.
The record has been played a great deal, but is of merit due to its unique Mother/Stampers.
CONDITION:
MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good condition and is strong, flat and complete. The spine is very strong and in very good condition and all the text is clear. The sleeve is made of the original ‘thick set card’. Housed in the early front laminated ‘E.J. Day' sleeve with a large black ‘solid’ Mono on the front. It features a tri-flipback sleeve. The name of the photographer is in the correct position, ‘Angus Mcbean’, that appears on the front far right hand bottom corner. The non laminated rear is clean and white. There is a small tape repair to the rear top left hand corner, tape reinforcement has been put to the opening edges of the sleeve for protection. A name and address appears in blue biro on the rear.
INNER SLEEVE: is the original Emitex poly-lined (rice paper) inner-sleeve in very good condition, there is no writing (biro), there is a little wear to two of the edges.
VINYL: is of the ‘thick set’ type, the matrix nos. are - XEX 421-1N and XEX 422-1N, the Mother/Stampers are of 1G and 1G engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove. These can be seen in good light.
Side One - is in fair condition, the record plays with the odd pop and crackle and tends to skip on track 1 - 4 due to marks on the surface. In the run off groove at 9 o’clock there is a ‘1’ stamped ONLY, and at 3 o’clock there is a ‘G’ stamped ONLY.
Side Two - is in good condition, the record plays with the odd pop and crackle. In the run off groove at 9 o’clock there is a ‘1’ stamped ONLY and at 3 o’clock there is a ‘G’ stamped ONLY.
THE LABELS: there is some wear to the labels and to the spindle holes, but there is NO writing (biro) or sticker damage.
I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.
Grading System
The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
+ or – : indicates a grading in between categories.
