Description
Up for auction is a copy of Please Please Me by The Beatles, released in 1963 on Parlophone, cat no PMC 1202. This is a first UK mono pressing, with black and gold labels, and the Angus McBean photo credit to the extreme far right on the front cover. The self-composed titles are credited on the labels to Dick James music rather than Northern Songs, making this copy a true first pressing. The stamper codes are 1M / 1O, making this one of the first few thousand off the presses.
Condition: this is where it gets tricky. Side two is in generally acceptable condition: a few light marks to the vinyl, not affecting play. Clean labels with minor wear around the centre hole. Maybe G+ to VG. Side one is a different matter: extreme wear to almost the entire surface, with some wear to areas of the label. I tried playing sections of this side, and much to my surprise it actually played, but I think this copy is primarily of use as a display piece rather than something you’d want to listen to. I can’t grade it higher than F. The cover has spine and edge wear (some repaired splits), plus some staining to rear. Maybe G to G+.
