THE BEATLES - SGT PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

1967 UK MONO 12" LP 1st pressing  Parlophone PMC 7027

RARER "WIDE SPINE"

Matrix Numbers : Side 1  XEX 637 - 1, stampers 4,  A P R;  Side 2  XEX 638 - 1, stampers 7, A R M

A very nice copy of this classic, sought after 1st pressing

Both sides of the vinyl have retained much of their original sheen. On first appearance, and under "normal" daylight the appearance comes across as "excellent"; upon closer inspection, and under a bright light, it is clear that the record has had a good number of plays and a number of wispy hairlines, along with a couple of small, mild scuffs, become apparent. Nothing below the surface, however, and nothing nasty to detract from the overall VG+ condition.

The laminated Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold outer sleeve is in very good+ condition, with original, vibrant colouring fully intact. This is the much rarer "WIDE SPINE" variant, where a small portion of the front and back of the album overlap onto the spine itself : the width of the white portion of the spine is 6mm, and the total width of the spine including the overlapping portions is 07.5mm. The top and bottom edges are not scuffed and near perfect, the spine is also a strong very good but does suffer from a couple of small creases and one more obvious crease right over the "y" in "Lonely" - see photo. The colouring inside the gatefold remains as impressive as ever though there is a fold running parallel to the main spine and some slight distortion at the top of the spine. The top flipbacks are in excellent shape also except for a part of the flipback just above Paul McCartney's head which seems to have come away a little and then delicately stuck back on. Nothing nasty or unsightly here at all and these are relatively minor blemishes but still definitely worth noting. All writing on the rear of the sleeve is legible with no major blemishes at all.

The quality of the audio is VG+, bordering on excellent. There is some occasional, light sound of background crackle but it's very low level and does not significantly detract from the overall excellent sound quality. Having just played the record right through again I can reaffirm that on side 1 this background crackle really is minor and on side 2 it's negligible. No nasty skips or pops. A really, really enjoyable listen.

Each label is excellent. There are some very light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole but, again, nothing to detract from the overall excellent condition of each label, with the raised "K", "T" tax codes very apparent on the side 2 label.

The track listing is :

Side 1:

1. SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

2. A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS

3. LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS

4. GETTING BETTER

5. FIXING A HOLE

6. SHE'S LEAVING HOME

7. BEING FOR THE BENEFIT OF MR. KITE

Side 2 :

1. WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU

2. WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR

3. LONELY RITA

4. GOOD MORNING, GOOD MORNING

5. SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (Reprise)

6. A DAY IN THE LIFE

The original cardboard cut-out insert remains in perfect, unused condition; and the rarer red and white inner sleeve is fully functional with no splits, albeit a little "grubby" on the top opening edge.

Considering it's 51 year old age this classic album remains in a strong VG+ overall condition and each timeless track remains a joy to listen to.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. I worked in IT for 22 years before doing a complete career change to teach Maths in a high school at the ripe old age of 45 - probably the best career move that I ever made. I took great joy in indulging the "kids" in my eclectic collection of 60's and 70's vinyl, even once dedicating a whole PSE session to the Genesis classic ""Foxtrot".  But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller, and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
