Description
This is an original MONO copy of the brilliant "SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND" album by (of course) THE BEATLES on the "Rainbow" CAPITOL label, cat # MAS 2653. As far as I know it is the first USA pressing - but I admit I'm not sure how USA matrix numbers work, so if anyone out there can advise better, please contact me. The cover has split for about 3" along the top right edge (repairable, but I prefer to leave that to the ultimate owner) otherwise I reckon Excellent is a fair grading. The insert sheet is present and Mint. The "wavy" inner sleeve is present but has a split along the bottom edge. Previous owner has repaired this quite nicely. As to the vinyl: there are quite a few generally light markings/scratches causing some "clicks" and "ticks". There are a couple of "clunks" on the run-in groove side 1. Due to the superior vinyl used in those far-off halcyon days, there are no thumps jumps or skips. Indeed it plays far better than it looks, but it would be absurd to say it played noiselessly. I have played it very happily on my 1959 Volmar but I do not recommend playing it on highly sensitive equipment. A Dansette would be ideal! PLEASE STUDY THE PICS BELOW CAREFULLY. In general I would sum this up as a very good acceptable copy of an artefact whose historical importance cannot be exaggerated. This is the album that lifted pop/rock out of the "disposable" into the "art" and, frankly, everything worthwhile recorded since owes a huge debt.
