Description

THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

The omission of "A Day In The Life" on the side 2 label makes this one of the rarest Sgt Pepper's pressings

Label number : PMC 7027

Matrix numbers : XEX 637-1 , XEX 638-1

Stampers :  6  MM 0  /  7  MAT
Very good plus (VG+) condition vinyl (I am sure that many would grade as "excellent") - gleaming vinyl with an impressive jet black sheen still, and in normal daylight looks completely unmarked. It is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that some extremely fine wispy and paper scuff hairlines can be identified, along with just a couple of very faint scuffl lines, on each side - nothing feelable or obvious and each appearing to be purely superficial as evidenced by the wonderful stereo sound quality. Having said that there are x3 very, very light background clicks on each of "Getting Better" and "Lovely Rita" - you will need to listen hard to hear them but they are there. Nonetheless, remarkable condition when considering that this record is almost 50 years old!  The labels are in overall excellent (EX) condition - just a few small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label and a name (looks like "Ruuzi") written neatly in blue biro with small lettering on the side 2 label (see photo). And, of course, on the side 2 label there is no "A DAY IN THE LIFE" track listing!  A very good plus (VG+) condition Garrod & Lofthouse 1st press  gatefold outer sleeve - firm edges with no scuffing (apart from 1cm of light scuffing at the extremity of each end of the spine), a firm spine also but with some creasing along the spine and a couple of very small nicks - the spine text remains legible with just a couple of letters partially obscured by the vertical creasing and a tiny nick mid-way along the spine, no obvious cardboard creasing, nicely defined right angled corners with some mild rubbing on the two spine corners and just a little scuffing adjacent to these same corners, firm opening edges with no fraying, no ring wear, and all colours, iconic art work, text and photos remaining in great condition with excellent definition still. There are some non-obvious 1-2cm surface "crinkles" adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on both the front and reverse side and some mild laminate creasing towards the two right corners on the front side and on the reverse side towards the top left corner - I have tried to show these in my photos. The inside of the gatefold is near perfect. Do take a good look at my photos where I have attempted to give a detailed and honest portrayal of the condition of this iconic gatefold. The Peter Blake cardboard cut-out is present and in unused condition. Excellent (EX) MONO sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats or distortion, and with background crackle being at an absolute minimum - negligible in fact. As already mentioned there are x3 very light clicks on each of the "Getting Better" and "Lovely Rita" tracks but these are non-obvious and unless you are deliberately listening out for these clicks you will probably miss them! Wonderful tone and crystal clear mono reproduction with truly impressive sound quality throughout. Every track remains a brilliant listen, and not forgetting the nano-second vocal recording loop at the very end of the side 2 run-out, indicative of a very 1st UK pressing of this epic album.  Comes with very good plus (VG+) original flame red and white "Fool's" inner sleeve, still fully functional and in very nice condition - just a little mild creasing and a single 2cm split in the middle of the right side edge. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.    An overall great condition copy of this UK 1st press Beatles masterpiece with wonderful MONO sound quality, but it's the omission on the side 2 label of "A Day In The Life" which puts this copy high up on any Beatles collector's wish liust.
