The Beatles “Ask Me Why” EP (1964)
Vee-Jay Records #VJEP 1-903 [Promotional Copy]

Initially released as Souvenir Of Their Visit To America, this four song EP is one of the more highly sought after 7” records from The Beatles, as it was the only EP of the band produced by Vee-Jay Records for the American market. (Tracks include “Ask Me Why,” “Anna,” “Misery” and “Taste of Honey.”) Whether it was the European-friendly format, the rather high retail price of $1.29, or the fact that these songs had all appeared on Introducing the Beatles, this particular release was practically ignored. In a last ditch effort to help promote this EP, Vee-Jay distributed this second limited edition “For Promotional Use Only” copy, which is by far the rarest variant of this particular record. (Unlike the first “Promotional Copy,” the label on this release differs in that the title for “Ask Me Why” is printed in a bolder text than the other three songs, as this was the track Vee-Jay hoped would ultimately sell the record.) An extremely tough Beatles piece to come by.

This record is in Very Good condition, and although it displays some light scuffing and/or surface scratches on both sides, it plays well with only some minor noise. Unfortunately, it does not come with the original picture sleeve.

As a bonus, I will throw in two other Beatles 7” records at no extra charge. These include “Please Please Me” w/ “From Me to You” (Vee-Jay Records #VJ-581) which I think is a second pressing (the first one with the rainbow color band label), and “Get Back” w/ “Don’t Let Me Down” (Capitol Records #2490), both recorded with Billy Preston and on the apple label. Both of these records probably grade about Very Good Minus, as both display general wear. (The Vee-Jay also has the remnants of a ½” price sticker stuck to the label of one side, and the apple one has a not-so-shallow scratch near the beginning of “Get Back.”) Neither is worth much, I would assume, especially the Billy Preston single, but, what the heck, they’re free.

All pieces are strictly graded to the best of my ability. I have been a serious collector for well over twenty years now, and have been selling and trading for just as long. Although my descriptions tend to be fairly thorough, I strongly recommend that you e-mail me prior to bidding should there be any question as to the condition and/or content of a particular piece in this lot. Take care, and thanks for bidding.
