Description

BEATLES UK – A Hard Days Night, earliest E J Day ‘paper’ flipback sleeve.

PMC 1230 – original 1964, very first issue black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A UK very first mono issue album in original condition, featuring:

A hard to find very early issue sleeve with thin ‘paper’ flipbacks with ‘square ends’, made by E J Day. Regular sleeves and later E J Day sleeves had conventional thicker ‘card’ flipbacks with ‘rounded’ ends.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition, the front is laminated. This laminate is in excellent, it has remained glossy and relatively free for any indentations. There are no thumbnail creases. The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained sharp, clean and unworn. The four corners of the sleeve have remained sharp and clean for it age. The spine is in excellent+ condition and has remained an excellent clean, fresh white and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve has remained an excellent clean, fresh white in colour. The rear of the sleeve has the period tri flipback design. These earliest known ‘E J Day’ paper flipbacks are known to be fragile and can ‘snag’ and tear easily, but on this sleeve the flipbacks are all excellent and undamaged. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the rear, bottom flipback, to the right, there is evidence of a slight water mark, but this is doesn’t detract from an overall excellent sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition and is the original period EMI ‘Use Emitex’ sleeve. An excellent clean, fresh and un creased sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean and unworn. Theres NO pen writing, stains, tears, splits, stickers or sticker residue.

THE RECORD: side one is in excellent++ condition. Side two is in excellent condition. It has remained very dark and glossy and ‘looks’ as if it has received little play. The record is made from the period 1960s, quality thick, heavy vinyl.

The matrix are: XEX 481 – 3N and XEX 482 – 3N,

The mother / stampers are: ‘ 4 G M O ’ and ‘ 4 O R ’.

THE AUDIO: is very good++, it plays with some light crackle. The record would benefit from a professional clean to help reduce the above audio issues an the condition of the playing surfaces are so clean. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: side one is in excellent+ condition, side two is in excellent condition. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
