Description
BEATLES UK, Please Please Me, rare ridged labels, 1963 UK mono LP.
PMC 1202, early UK black and yellow Parlophone record labels.
A UK LP in original condition, featuring:
1. each record label features very unusual ‘ridges’. The ‘ridges’ are about 10mm from the outer edge of the record label. Side one features a more ‘pronounced ridge’, but the ridge on side two is a ‘shallower ridge’. To meet the demand of sales for this album it is now thought that these rare UK ‘ridged’ record labels were manufactured by re employing an old ‘rogue’ pressing machine that EMI bought back into service for a short time,
2. only a very small number of these ‘ridged’ record label records were ever manufactured,
3. the records ‘matrix’ and ‘mother / stampers’ are all regular EMI / Parlophone,
4. there is an additional ‘dot’ printed onto the record label on side one, as it reads, ‘Sold in .U.K.’, etc,
5. the main card sleeve features a more unusual large front mono logo, ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’ sleeve,
6. comes with its original, red and white period EMI advertising inner sleeve.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The spine is in very good+ condition and has remained clean, white and straight and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve features the period, 1960s, ‘tri flip back’, ie fold over edges design. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the front laminate there are slight signs of some ‘indentations’ of some hand writing, but this can only be seen when the sleeve is ‘tilted’ to the light.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition and is the original, period red and white EMI advertising inner sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, tears, splits, stickers or sticker residue to the inner sleeve.
THE RECORD: side one is in very good++ condition. Side two is in near excellent condition. The record has remained very dark and glossy.
The records matrix is: XEX 421 - 1N and XEX 422 – 2N, the letter ‘N’ has been heavily ‘stamped’ over at the EMI factory,
The mother / stampers are: ‘15 RHO’ and ‘5 RD’.
THE AUDIO: each side plays excellent. The record plays with a full, powerful period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.
THE RECORD LABELS: each of the record labels are in very good ++ condition. Each of the record labels have some ‘spindle’ trails. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side two. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE.
