BEATLES UK – Revolver, original ‘remix 11’, very first UK mono issue.

1966 PMC 7009 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A very first UK mono issue in original condition, featuring:

1. these very first UK mono 2/1 matrix records were withdrawn from sale in the UK after the wrong mix of the track ‘Tomorrow never knows’ was used. Now referred to as the ‘Remix 11’, the famous story goes that John Lennon discovered that his preferred mix of this track had not been used on the album. So the decision was made to stop production and attempts were made to withdraw the 2/1 matrix records, but this decision didn’t stop some copies of the 2/1 matrix getting into the shops. The albums matrix was soon replaced with the more familiar 2 / 2 matrix records,

2. a similar storey happened with the spelling of the track title, ‘Doctor Robert’. John Lennon thought that it was more appropriate to have the ‘Doctor’ spelling rather than the ‘Dr’ spelling, so attempts were made to replace the ‘Dr’ spelling with the ‘Doctor’ spelling. Possibly due to the printing cost implications, the spelling on the rear of the sleeve was never corrected to read, ‘Doctor’ !,

3. the record label on side two has an unusual feature that I have not seen before, as it appears to have a ‘backwards’ embossed ‘KT’ around the spindle hole, see photo.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is excellent+ condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. This laminate has remained very clean and glossy. The laminate has just two slight thumb creases. The two opening edges and the four corners of the sleeve have remained clean and sharp for its age. The spine is in excellent++ condition and has remained and excellent clean, fresh white in colour and all the text is readable on the spine. The rear features the original 1960s style tri - flip back design. The flip backs are in excellent unstressed condition. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There are some slight indentations to the front and the rear of the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition and is the original correct period 1966 EMI white sleeve with the text ‘Patents applied for’. The sleeve has remained an excellent clean fresh white for its age, a very well preserved inner sleeve. The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained very clean for its age. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue. The is a slight split to the bottom edge.

THE RECORD: is in very good++. It is made of the period 1960s thick, heavy vinyl. It has remained dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 605 - 2 and XEX 606 – 1, that features the ‘withdrawn’ mix of the track ‘Tomorrow never knows’, known as the ‘Remix 11’.

The mother / stampers are: ‘6 A T’ and ‘3 R A’,

THE AUDIO: is very good++, it plays with some ‘crackle’ and some ‘pops’ heard here and there. The record lays flat on the turntable. The record plays with a good loud, full period mono sound.

THE LABELS: are in excellent condition. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
