WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS/BLACKBIRD (Capitol 18892 "FOR JUKEBOXES ONLY!" BLUE vinyl CEMA Special Markets 45, 1996): UNPLAYED MINT w/jukestrip.
This is a "FOR JUKEBOXES ONLY" CEMA Special Markets release, but it will play on any 45RPM record player...
Previously-unreleased-on-45 George Harrison song from the "white" album, backed with a McCartney ode from the same 2-LP set. There were NO singles issued from this 1968 album at the time.
Only 11 of the 29 colored vinyl 1994-1996 CEMA Special Markets Beatles singles hadn't already been issued as 45s. These singles are the most highly sought-after in the series. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds on red vinyl is among the scarcest, and so is While My Guitar Gently Weeps/Blackbird on blue vinyl. These 45s are in high demand, both by collectors putting together a complete colored vinyl set, and by Beatles-lovers and jukeboxers who want the songs on 45s: they aren't available as singles anywhere else!
Here's an UNPLAYED MINT example on brilliant BLUE vinyl, with its jukebox title strip. All the CEMA Special Markets "FOR JUKEBOXES ONLY!" singles are escalating in price:
The Capitol colored vinyl 45s are the rarest stock-copy Beatles singles ever released in the U.S.; there were between 10,000 and 22,000 copies pressed of each "FOR JUKEBOXES ONLY!" 45. This was a sign of the times; by the mid-nineties the era of the 45RPM record seemed to be over. Juke-jobbers, for whom the series was created, had already moved to CD jukeboxes. They didn't want the records, so Capitol sold them to chain stores and mail-order companies just to get rid of them. The rarity of the 30 colored vinyl Beatles 45s is impressive compared to the countless millions of '60s orange-and-yellow swirls and the immense flood of orange, blue, and purple-label reissues of the '70s and '80s. This is one of the second 15 records Capitol released in 1996, by far the scarcest of the colored vinyl series. The entire run includes eleven singles that had never before appeared as U.S. 45s (like this one) and two others with alternate flip sides. It's been 19 years since Capitol released the last of these beautiful records, and rapidly-increasing values reflect their rarity...
