Description

A rare Beatles item indeed.

Equally as seriously scarce as the same first release Beatles "White Album" cassette in flip-top, cigarette packet form, in August 1971 (which was on the market for just a few weeks) is this succeeding first release "White Album" in normal Norelco case form, which followed on the heels of the "cigarette packet" form being withdrawn.

It seems EMI UK were experimenting with musicassette marketing designs at the time and they finally settled on the "all gold" inlay design for the reissues in 1972 - leaving these first, early, marketing and experimental designs behind, thus becoming desirable collectors items nearly 50 years later.

See photo for EMI's initial launch material for this first 1971 "White Album" double album musicassette release.

Lime green paper labels (they appear yellow in the photographs) with NO EMI/Parlophone label logos - it is said that there was a shortage of expensive letterpress blocks.

The condition is very good. The tape plays perfectly with NO fade outs/ edits or breaks, no bubbling to the labels, and with just a minor hairline crack to the right edge of side 1, which does not detract from the overall condition.

The inlay is the first issue "White Inlay" original design, with its characteristic newspaper-like print used for the first releases of the other Beatles albums in September and October 1970. The circular 1 &7/8ths inches per second tape speed denotation is at the top of the inlay spine. There are some marks on the track listing on the inlay fold-over, and a slightly creased "tail-end" to the inlay, but again, nothing to detract from an overall presentable 50 year old Beatles historic gem.

Particularly good sound throughout with no fade out/breaks/edits etc. Original Norelco case is undamaged. Please see all photos.

An historic Beatles gem that only comes up for sale on E Bay once in a blue moon - and as rare as "hen's teeth", as they say.

Please see my other Beatle items. Posting in the UK and Worldwide.
