After taking the Beau Brummels to the pop/folk psychedelic edge, producer Lenny Waronker took the band to Nashville, literally. Possibly influenced by the Byrds Sweetheart experiments, the group (now down to just Sal Valentino on vocals and Ron Elliott on guitars) wedded with Nashville's finest, including guitarist Jerry Reed and drummer Kenneth A. Buttrey, both veterans of Dylan's Nashville sessions. These players were not just good musicians, but smart musicians, easily embellishing the Elliott/Valentino duo as if they had been playing with the two for years, not days. The resulting masterpiece, no doubt due to the awesome Brummels original songs (especially "Cherokee Girl," "Turn Around," and "Deep Water"), is a virtual tapestry in country and rock.

This great 1968 country-rock album by the great 1960’s band represented another stage in the ongoing competition between THE BYRDS and THE BEAU BRUMMELS. While the latter band never really achieved the level of critical and popular success the former has, BEAU BRUMMELS were every bit as competent, inspired and prolific as their more popular cousins from the West Coast. This 1968 album - pretty much recorded at the same time Byrds did their "Sweetheart of Rodeo" was one of the first (and heretofore one of of the very few successful) attempts at merging Country and Rock. To this day, and to these ears, only three such hybrid attempts survive with dignity: the above two albums, one by the Byrds and another by Beau Brummels, plus Flying Burrito Brothers’ "Gilded Palace of Sin". This album, with classic, celestial harmonies, ringing and twanging guitars and songwriting to match, was recorded in the Barn of Owen Bradley (NOT Bill Bradley!) - hence the title - the legendary Nashville producer and arranger (who produced Jim Reeves; Patsy Cline, many others), and was visibly influenced by his production methods. A soothing balm for urban ears, not to be missed .

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        The front cover has a tiny, inconspicuous,  metal ring in the upper left corner, indicating that the album was the property of the radio or broadcasting station.

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in two of its corners.

-         Cover has one corner slightly compressed (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the back panel

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.  (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
