BENNY GOLSON - GROOVIN' WITH
A truly excellent condition copy of this very rare 1959 US 1st press jazz gem with sparingly played vinyl and superb audio quality throughout
Year/Label : 1959 US NEW JAZZLabel number : NJLP 8220 (with 1st press circular "deep grooves" in each)
Matrix numbers : NJLP 8220 A / NJLP 8220 B (with 1st press dead wax "RVG" stamp on each side)
1959 Benny Golson gem on cherished US NEW JAZZ 1st press deep groove record label : excellent (EX) condition vinyl - thick, weighty and completely flat and in normal daylight comes across as virtually unmarked - it is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that a few wispy hairlines and extremely faint thin scuff marks, along with a few spots of vinyl "dulling", come into view on each side...all non-feelable, appearing to be superficial and with no impact upon the wonderful MONO audio quality. The slight exception to this is two slightly more visible (but still non-feelable) line scuffs on side 2 : one is 4mm in length and towards the end of B1 and the other is 5mm in length and towards the beginnning of B2. There is also a very light concentric hairline (again, non-feelable) in this same area of the vinyl which results in x15 very light background clicks towards the end of B1, and a further x7 very, very light clicks occur towards the beginning of B2 but I can find no obvious reason for these.These glitches are very minor and barely impact upon the wonderful sound quality at all. I should finally add that both sides of the vinyl gleam with near perfect retention of it's original jet black lacquered sheen. Clearly this is a record that has been only sparingly played. Excellent plus (EX+) condition 1st press labels - the only blemishes being just a few very small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Note the circular "deep groove" on each label - a clear indicator of very early pressings. Excellent plus (EX+) condition non-laminated thick cardboard outer sleeve with firm edges - each completely unscuffed apart from just 1cm of very light scuffing on the top and bottom edge immediately next to the opening edge corners. Near perfectly defined right angled corners with absolutely minimal rubbing on each, firm opening edges with no fraying or feathering, the spine remains rock solid with not a scuff or "nick" in sight, and all colours/art work and text remain beautifully intact and with great definition. There are just a few small and very, very light storage/handling marks on the reverse side - very trivial, and this sleeve remains eminently presentable and of course fully functional - wonderful! Excellent plus (EX+) MONO audio quality with no skips, sticks, jumps, repeats, interference or distortion, virtually no background crackle at all and the only clicks are the aforementioned (above) very light side 2 clicks - brilliant!. Simply great tone with crystal clear MICROGROOVE audio quality throughout with Benny Golson (tenor sax), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Ray Bryant (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Art Blakey (drums) at the very top of their game. Stunning, and no wonder this LP is so sought after!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
