This is one of the FIRST RECORDS ever produced as we know them. 7 inches in diameter, one-sided, number 52507. The label is hand-written, or hand-etched.
BELOW I QUOTE WHAT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE WRITER ANITA PESCE "LA SIRENA NEL GRAMMOFONO" ("THE MERMAID IN GRAMOPHONE") CONCERNING THE BEGINNING OF RECORD INDUSTRY IN NAPLES: (Thanks to Mr. FRANCESCO MARTINELLI for the information)
The Berliner Gramophone record of Giannini is historically very important. It was recorded on June 28, 1900.It marked the arrival of the record industry in Naples. Fred Gainsberg (representative of Gramophone company) records Neapolitan songs at Loreto Brothers, owners of a shop in Piazza Borsa. Were recorded 35 matrices ("with the accompaniment of mandolins and guitars"), the first performer in the room's incision was Diego Giannini (with the song Maria Marì). There are probably evidence of some cylinder, but this is the first Neapolitan song put on a record.

Il disco di Giannini è storicamente assai importante: inciso il 28 giugno del 1900, segna l'arrivo dell'industria discografica a Napoli. Fred Gainsberg, rappresentante della Gramophone registra canzoni napoletane presso i Fratelli Loreto, proprietari di un negozio in piazza Borsa. Furono incise 35 matrici ("con accompagnamento di mandolini e chitarra"): il primo interprete in sala d' incisione fu Diego Giannini (Maria Marì). Esistono probabilmente testimonianze su cilindro, ma questa è la prima canzone napoletana su disco. Spero vada in un serio archivio.

This is an example of one of the first records made, which marked a transition from previous cylinders. I quote from a website: "The earliest are the so-called pre-label E. Berliner’s Gramophone, generally known as Berliners (August 8, 1898 to as late as December 1905). These discs are a nominal 7 inches in diameter, with no paper labels, but having the necessary details of the recording inscribed in the central area by the recording engineer, his assistant, various technicians at the processing plant, or a combination of these."
