Unbelievable is what it is.
I mean, how many Beethoven 5ths have we all heard? Dozens? Perhaps more. And yet, there is a way with certain conductors that simply brings what you thought you knew more alive.
Such is the way with Carlos Kleiber. That he hated recording, had to be arm twisted to step into a studio at all is well noted. But his performance, once there and immersed, and in a trance, as some said, produced magnificent readings.
This is his 5th, oh yes, awarded the Grand Prix du Disque the year of its release. And yet, it is so much more, to be listened to, perhaps repeatedly, to be fully understood….
Cover is crisp, like new; “alle” Blueline German pressing will play near mint.
A definitive performance, a wonderful copy.
