These are the original George Wein recordings of Lady Day at Boston nightclub STORYVILLE, captured in 1951 and 1953.
They feature Billie at her best, here with back-up musicians the likes of Stan Getz, Buster Harding, Jimmy Woods, John Fields, and Carl Drinkard. A treatise in singing, in I COVER THE WATERFRONT, TOO MARVELOUS FOR WORDS, THEM THERE EYES, WILLOW WEEP FOR ME, HE’S FUNNY THAT WAY, LOVER COME BACK TO ME, AIN’T NOBODY’S BUSINESS IF I DO, and YOU’RE DRIVING ME CRAZY, among others.
A great audiophile edition from perhaps the finest jazz singer who ever stepped up to a mic, here in a cover with mild shelf (nothing at all serious), record inside – a heavy platter – should play near mint.
Legendary performances, and the finest pressing I know of. Just place the stylus down, let the Lady sing....

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
