This album contains later material recorded by Lady Day on the rare Clef label. Her she is backed by Oscar Peterson on piano, Flip Phillips and Paul Quinichette on saxes, Barney Kessel on guitar and Ray Brown on bass (amongst others).They were recorded between April and July in 1952 in L.A. and New York City.

“Her last studio dates had the best known and most problematic music she ever made. These are songs where the timbre and pace of her voice are so funeral as to induce depression in some listeners whilst others may feel a persuasive inner lilt which insists her greatness has endured.’

The tunes include If the Moon Turns Grey, Remember, Autumn in New York, My Man, Lover Come Back to Me, Stormy Weather, Yesterdays, He’s Funny That Way, I Can’t Face the  Music, How Deep is the Ocean, I Cried For You, What a Little Moonlight Can Do.

The vinyl is in great condition as is the label. The reverse cover has some numbers lightly stenciled in a cluster in the far left corner. They are about 1/4 inch each . There is a slight corner seam split of about ½ inch at the top. It would be difficult to find a better copy of a very scarce album.

MINT: Brand new condition, no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover, label, extras in perfect condition.

VERY GOOD: played quite a few times, no real deterioration in sound quality. Cover, label, extras slight amount of wear and tear.

GOOD: showing some wear and tear. Reasonable, playable sound. No major defects in record, cover, label, extras.

FAIR: Sound quality deteriorated. Cover, label, extras display folding, scuffing, marks.                                               .
