Description
Up for auction is this mega rare 78rpm from Billy Lee Riley, a most sought after item, a great rocker " Rock With Me Baby ", and a great mid-tempo rockabilly tune "Trouble Abound". It's a 1956 release on the US SUN label, Cat. No. 245., and is a real collectors item.
Although there's a 3" crack across one half of the record, from rim to label, the crack is quite hidden so amazingly it doesn't click on "Rock With Me Baby", unless it's a very faint one I can't hear. Unfortunately, on "Trouble Bound", there's some sort of greyish residue on part of that side. I don't know what it is, as I only came across it recently, in a large number of 78's I was looking through recently, part of a large collection I acquired including 45's and LP's some time ago.
I would grade "Rock With Me Baby" as VG+ Cond.,as it does play really well."Trouble Bound" I can only grade at a conservative G+ Cond., however if the residue could be removed, it should play ok, and as it doesn't click, it could be graded as VG+ Cond., too.
The record will be most carefully packed, as am aware how fragile 78rpms are for mailing, but I always pack my 45's and LP's carefully and packaging 78's will be no different, as I've researched the web as to the best methods as advised by experts.
Good Luck if you're bidding, and please feel free to ask, if you have any questions. Also would be pleased to receive any advice on how to remove this whitish/greyish staining, as shown in picture 2. Thank you.
Re Postage costs for UK, I've estimated cost for a medium parcel 2nd class post, as with layers of protective packing and bubble wrap/or newspaper, box will probably be over 8cms. This will cost £5.40. If I can pack safely and it's under 8cms depth,it will be much cheaper. However, it's preferable that record arrives unbroken in one piece of course.
