BILLY THORPE AND THE AZTECS
"Rock Me Baby" b/w "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"
Original 7" 45 rpm single, Festival FK-3638 , released March 1970 , Australian pressing. In Company sleeve.
In December 1968 Aussie guitar hero Lobby Loyde joined the Aztecs and played a major role in establishing the hard-rocking style and ear-splitting volume that were indelibly associated with the "new" Aztecs, as well as encouraging and mentoring Billy Thorpe as a guitarist.
The first recording fruits of this newfound musical style appeared early in 1970 with the determinedly blues-based single Rock Me Baby / Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. The A-side was to become a mainstay of The Aztecs' live set and one of its most popular songs for years. With plaited ponytails, tight jeans and a new blues-based hard-rock style, Thorpie and his new Aztecs blitzed Melbourne's 'heads' with an explosive presentation that forever laid to rest his clean-cut '60s pop image.
The only recordings that this particular line-up of the Aztecs (often referred to as Aztecs Mk3) released were this 7" single and the jam-based LP The Hoax is Over .
By the time The Hoax is Over LP was released Lobby Loyde had moved on to form the Coloured Balls.
Condition:
Record - VG+ : This record is in great condition. There are a few very light sleeve scuffs and the odd hairline mark which do not interfere with playability. Plays exceptionally well with great dynamics. Minimal surface noise is present . Gloss/sheen is still very good. The yellow labels are very clean, without mildew spots, tears, or stickers. A name is written in biro on labels on both sides.
Company sleeve - : The company sleeve is creased around its edges, mainly at the top. There is about an inch long seam split halfway along one side plus a few ageing spots here and there. A name is written on one side of the sleeve in biro.
This an very clean, very well cared for copy of this hard-to-obtain Aztec single from 1970.
